In December 2017, Republican leadership of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce introduced H.R. 4508, the Promoting Real Opportunity, Success and Prosperity through Education Reform Act, legislation to revise and reauthorize the Higher Education Act of 1965. Last reauthorized in 2008, the Higher Education Act provides some $128 billion a year in federal loans and grants for low-income postsecondary students and institutions of higher education.
